Monkey Junior uses the two most effective and proven methods to teach children how to read: the phonics method and the whole-word method.
In the phonics method, children learn how to decode. They look at individual or groups of letters, recognize the sounds, and blend them together to form a fluent word. Children can therefore read new words that they have never been taught.
In alternative teaching methods, children learn to recognize whole words or sentences rather than individual sounds. Repetition in books or through flashcards enables the child to memorize new words. They may also learn to take clues from pictures accompanying the text.
Language experts believe that children can simultaneously learn proper pronunciation, how to combine tones to form words, how recognize whole words, and how to apply recently learned words to particular situations.
