this is a breakout board for the very useful 16-Channel Analog / Digital Multiplexer / Demultiplexer CD74HC4067.
this chip is like a rotary switch-this internally routes the common pin
(COM in the schematic, GIS on the board) to a 16-pin channel (CHANxx).
it works with the digital and analog signals (the voltage can not be higher than VCC),
and the function of connections in any direction.
to control it, connect 4-pin select address of the digital outputs to the chip (S0-S3),
and send the binary address of the channel you want (see datasheet for details).
this allows you to connect up to 16 sensors to the system using only 5 pins!
since mux / demux also works with digital signals,
you can use it to pipe-level TTL serial data to or from multiple devices.
for example, you can use it to connect devices to a RX TX 16-pin pins on your microcontroller.
then you can select any of the 16 devices to listen to.
if you want two-way communications, you can add a second route card
your TX line to 16 lines microcontroller RX device.
using multiple boards, you can create similar layouts for I2C, SPI, etc.
